Thomas Rousseau founded Patriot Front in August 2017 and has served as its national leader since. He was among 31 Patriot Front members arrested in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in June 2022 on a misdemeanor conspiracy-to-riot charge, which a state court later dismissed on procedural grounds; prosecutors appealed. Separately, in 2024 he was charged in Virginia in connection with a 2017 torch-lit march at the University of Virginia (predating Patriot Front's founding) and entered a no-jail plea to a reduced disorderly-conduct charge.

In February 2024, Rousseau was arrested on a Virginia warrant charging him with burning an object with intent to intimidate, in connection with a torch-lit march at the University of Virginia during the August 2017 'Unite the Right' events in Charlottesville -- which predated Patriot Front's founding, when Rousseau was affiliated with a different group (Vanguard America). In October 2024 he entered a plea to a reduced disorderly-conduct charge, receiving a 12-month suspended sentence, court costs, and a ban from University of Virginia grounds, with no jail time.

Rousseau was charged with misdemeanor conspiracy to riot following the June 2022 Coeur d'Alene arrests. In November 2023, a state court dismissed the charge against him after finding the prosecution had repeatedly failed to properly disclose evidence to the defense. Prosecutors appealed; no reversal of the dismissal had been publicly reported as of this writing.
